The program has had such a profound impact on the community that it has received funding from the National Youth Council for additional operations in *SCAPE Singapore.

She also supports sisters with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder).
Callista shared, “There are many misunderstandings for people with mental illness. Even those who are diagnosed may face stigma, which will inhibit the healing process. Therefore, I hope to improve my understanding of mental health and promote A constructive discussion of the issue. If we can show more empathy, we can eliminate the stigma associated with mental disorders and help build a more inclusive society.”
With the development of communities and sectors with special needs, the social services sector is more in need of the ability to build and improve its future preparations.
After consulting with a number of social service organizations, SP recently launched a new Professional Diploma in Applied Drama and Psychology (NSDAP). This is the first course to provide alternative skills and tools for social service professionals to meet their work challenges. They will learn how to use app drama to communicate sensitive or difficult topics with different groups of participants. The use of applied drama also allows participants to better share their thoughts and feelings in a safe and controlled environment. Twenty social service professionals are currently undergoing a new NSDAP course and they will graduate in May 2020.
This year, SP also celebrated the graduation of 1,232 adult learners, an increase of nearly 50% compared to 2018. This is also the number of top continuing education (CET) graduates recorded by the Polytechnic. SP has expanded the existing 463 CET courses and introduced 10 new courses ranging from data science, digital marketing and analysis to specialty chemicals and enhanced HR skills.
Among the CET graduates this year, Tham Foon Choon, 68, has obtained a diploma (conversion) in shipping business and management. Mr. Tham said: “At first, it was difficult to get back to the classroom, but with the help of my lecturers and classmates, I managed to overcome the challenge. As part of the independent generation who contributed to the nation’s construction, I want to continue to do so. I believe that I can benefit my future employers through transferable work experience and newly discovered skills.”
